Thanks for a Fantastic Inaugural Summit!
A great thank you to all the attendees, speakers, volunteers and organizers who put together a Harvard Asian American Alumni Summit that exceeded all our expectations. We had over 400 registrants, gave away thousands of dollars in prizes to our Pitch contest winners, and raised a five-figure gift to Visiting Faculty Fund in Ethnic Studies
See you in a few years!
About 400 Asian and Asian-American alumni, faculty, students and staff from all Harvard schools will participate in the First Harvard Asian American Alumni Summit on October 15-17, 2010, in Cambridge, sponsored by the Harvard Asian American Alumni Alliance. Click here to see the list of attendees, from classes 1957-2014, from as far away as New Delhi, Tokyo, Beijing, Paris and London!
Since the 1990s, Asian Americans have been among the largest and fastest-growing segments of the Harvard alumni population—a group that includes some of the world’s most innovative figures in public service, business, science, technology, law, academia, media and the arts, representing a broad range of experiences and backgrounds.
The Summit will convene this dynamic and invaluable global network to reflect together about critical issues inside and outside of Harvard. We hope attendees will discover ideas, resources and support that will inspire them to make a difference in their own communities and worlds. We also hope that all will find friends old and new, as well as plenty of fun.
The Summit will open with welcomes by Harvard University President Drew Gilpin Faust and former Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao MBA ’79 and includes a keynote address by Secretary of the Cabinet Chris Lu J.D. ’91. An authors showcase will feature novelists Gish Jen ’77, V.V. (Sugi) Ganeshananthan ’02 and Tania James ’03. Other confirmed speakers include David Eun ’89, JD ’93, president of AOL Media and Studios; William F. Lee ’72, co-managing partner of the law firm WilmerHale and the first Asian-American to be elected to the Harvard Corporation.
It will be a full weekend. There will be panel discussions, networking events, a Film Fest of alumni movies, a luncheon at the Faculty Club, an Admissions session for alums and their children, a brunch catered by Flour Bakery + Cafe, owned by award-winning chef Joanne Chang ’91 and informal social gatherings. And on the offbeat front, Bernard Lee ’92, ALM ’94, a professional poker player with over $1.35 million in career tournament winnings, will offer a master class on poker for the card aspiring sharks among us.
Plus, the first ever ELEVATE Pitch Competition will allow creative thinkers across all disciplines the chance to present their ideas before a distinguished panel of judges to compete for cash and prizes totaling $25,000 in value for best Creativity, Innovation and Change.
Alumni across the country from classes 1970-2009 have been actively engaged in the planning to bring this to you.
